Artificial intelligence use cases in business, by department

The AI use cases with the best return in a company are concentrated in tasks with a lot of text, volume and small exceptions: customer service, sales qualification, reading documents and invoices, candidate screening, reports and operations. This guide sorts them by department and by difficulty so you know where to start.

Map of company departments with artificial intelligence use cases: sales, marketing, customer service, finance, human resources and operations

How to read this list

For each case we indicate the data needed and the difficulty (low, medium or high) of implementing it. Low difficulty usually means weeks and a contained budget; high means there are integrations, sensitive data or a high risk if something goes wrong. To choose between them, the most useful approach is to score each case by value, ease and risk, as we do in the AI diagnostic.

Frequently asked questions

Which departments benefit most from AI?

Customer service, sales, administration and finance, human resources and operations, because they concentrate tasks with a lot of text, volume and small exceptions.

Which AI use case is the easiest to start with?

A chatbot or assistant that answers with your own documents, and the classification of tickets or emails. They require few connected systems and deliver value in weeks.

What data do I need to use AI in my company?

It depends on the case: documents and FAQs for an assistant, ticket history for classification, invoices for extraction. Part of the diagnostic is assessing their quality and what needs preparing.

Which AI use cases are high risk?

Those that affect decisions about people (recruitment, credit, insurance), those that act on critical systems and those that handle sensitive data. They require human oversight, traceability and regulatory compliance.

How do I prioritise use cases?

By scoring each case on value (savings or revenue), ease (data and integrations), risk and adoption, and starting with the one with the best value-to-ease ratio.
